A virtual queue app nobody has to install
The scan opens a web page, not an app store. That single detail is why QR check-in works during a rush and app-based systems do not: at the moment someone is standing at your counter deciding whether to wait, a 40MB download is enough friction to lose them.
Join the line by QR code, then walk away
Once someone has joined they can leave the doorway. Their phone shows their position and it changes as you work down the list, so they can sit outside, browse the next stall, or go and get a coffee without losing their spot or hovering to ask.
Contactless check in without the phone number
Most queue systems need a mobile number because their whole notification model is SMS. Ours does not send messages, so the number is optional. That is one less thing to type on a cold morning, one less thing to store, and one less thing to explain when somebody asks what you do with it.

QR code waitlists: common questions
Create a waitlist, then open its share panel - the join link and a printable QR code are both there. Print it at about 4x4 inches for a counter or table tent, and larger for an A-frame people read from a few feet away. Anyone who scans it lands on the join form for that specific waitlist.
No. The QR code opens an ordinary web page in whatever browser their phone already has. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for - they type a name and they are in the queue.
A virtual queue replaces the physical line with a list. People join it from their own phone, keep their position, and are free to wait wherever they like. They can see their place in line at any time, so instead of standing where they can see the counter, they wait wherever is comfortable and come back when they are close to the front.
We do not send text messages at all, so there is nothing to charge for. Each guest gets a private link when they join, and that page updates itself as the queue moves. Most waitlist tools meter SMS because messages cost them money per send; this approach removes that cost rather than passing it on.
Their place is kept. The link they were given still works, so they can reopen it any time and see where they are. Their position depends on the waitlist, not on keeping a tab open.
